The fresh air of Spring inspires us to remember: we can pause and choose how we want to live again. Here are my 3 favorite ways to cleanse, enhancing overall productivity, focus, and enthusiasm for work:
1. Clean your workspace.
Clear the surface of your desk off completely and give it a well-deserved thorough clean. After it’s been cleared off and wiped down, add the essential. Add plants and flowers. Throw away old papers and documents. What you absolutely can’t throw away, file somewhere out of sight. But don’t be afraid to throw items away. The more empty space on your desk, the more mental space you’ll feel. (If you have a cluttered desktop, make sure to clear that up as well!).
2. Prune your to-do list.
What are you taking on that you don’t want to take on? How can you give yourself more choice and freedom? Take a look at your task list. For each item, ask yourself: can I eliminate, automate, delegate, or get support with this? I always like to look at my daily tasks and make sure they line up with my personal and professional goals for the quarter / year. Focus on being “effective” – choosing the right items to focus on – more so than being “efficient.”
3. Detox your body.
If you’re sluggish and toxins are building up in your body, chances are you probably aren’t being as focused and productive as you could be. A morning green smoothie is a (1) fast (2) delicious (3) nutritious and (4) detoxifying solution, and superb way to start the day. It takes about 5 minutes to make. You can make it more hearty by adding some nut butters or protein powder.
Everyday, I know I want to feel spacious. It's a constant practice, but so worth it when I see the results. Take the time, sister. You will not regret it!
